Read a BOOK!Hey Vomiteers!  Today’s book is an anthology.  It’s, “Stuck in the Middle: 17 Comics from an unpleasant Age” By Ariel Schrag

I usually try to avoid Anthologies because they are usually 1/3rd amazing, 1/3rd decent and 1/3rd terrible.  I did see some talented people who’s comics I read before so I decided to go against my better judgement and pick up the book.  Daniel Clowes, Joe Matt, Gabrielle Bell, and Nick Eliopolis were the reason I picked up the book.

The book is a collection of stories about uncomfortable times during middle school.  I remember being a mopey kid during those days, (as well as being one now).  The best part about autobiographical stories is the ability to relate to the people who write them.  It’s what connects us and what I look forward to when I read a book like this.

I just couldn’t feel a real connection with all the stories.  Some were really touching, I think one actually brought a tear or two to my eyes but generally the books were just a reminder of how lame we are as people.

I don’t think I’d recommend this book, even though it’s not terrible. I’d suggest reading some other books by the people in the table of contents.  I don’t think this is their best work.
